Kenneth Eugene Buckner was born in Pleasant Hope to Earl Buckner and Clesta Prater Buckner on Jan. 22, 1941.
He died at the family dairy farm, where he resided for 18 years, on Aug. 5, 2018, at the age of 77.
Kenneth married his high school sweetheart, Barbara Burdette, on Nov. 24, 1960. To this union were born three children, Connie, Jeff and Kenny. They lived in the Fair Grove/Pleasant Hope area until 2000.
Kenneth worked on many road construction jobs during the day. He spent many nights hauling hay, where he made four lifelong friends, Johnny Highbarger, Mackey Boles and the Kelb brothers, Rick and Terry.
Later, Kenneth worked at DFA for 23 years until he retired in 2002.
Kenneth’s hobbies included fishing, gigging, hunting, taking casino trips, watching Cardinals ballgames and sharing game highlights with his brother, Charles.
Other hobbies included telling stories, watching Nascar and swapping racing stories with his friend, Jimmy “JR” Blair.
Kenneth fought a myriad of health issues. He was a dialysis patient for over seven years at the Fresenius Clinic in Bolivar under the care of Dr. Sommersfeld and his team.
He was baptized into the Baptist church as a teenager.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Barbara; his three children, Connie and Gary Davis, Jeff and Amy Buckner, and Kenny and Lezlie Buckner; four grandchildren, Jessica, Joshua, Bethany and Kolten; his five stepgrandchildren, Emily, Andy, Brady, Matthew and Courtney and Emily; his three great-grandchildren, Aubrey and her mother, Jessey, Clayton and Jacob; his brother, Charles and Donella; a sister, Kathryn; his best friend, Jimmy Blair; brothers-in-law, DeWayne and Janice, Bob and Cathy Burdette; and a sister-in-law, Edie and Doug Mullings. He is also survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Kenneth requested there be no service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Kidney Fund.
