CIRCUIT COURT ACTIONS

The following actions were taken last week in Polk County Circuit Court. Dollar amounts listed are for fines only; court costs are in addition to the fine. Amended charges were amended by the prosecutor.

Cases heard by Associate Circuit Judge John C. Porter:

Melissa R. Rogers, Lyons, Colorado, born 1974; probation violation; probation and suspended imposition of sentence revoked and ordered to serve five years in prison on each count, to be served concurrently. Rogers was originally placed on probation in June for class D felony stealing - $750 or more and class C felony delivery of controlled substance.

Cases heard by Senior Judge William J. Roberts:

Brandon James Morrison, Halfway, born 1983; class C felony child molestation - third degree - child less than 14; four years prison, suspended, five years supervised probation and 120 days shock detention.

Johnnie Lee Ray Jr., Buffalo, born 1991; class D felony forgery; five years prison, suspended, five years supervised probation, $300 LERF and 10 days shock detention with credit for time served.

Renee Lynn Larsen, born 1967, Smithville; class D felony possession of controlled substance; summons issued; due in court Feb. 6.

Wayne Anthony Hobson, born 1992, Bolivar; class D felony possession of controlled substance; summons issued; due in court Feb. 6.

Earnest Luther Williams, born 1979, Bolivar; class E driving while revoked/suspended; summons issued; due in court Jan. 30.

Jami D. Gallaway, born 1970, Camdenton; class D felony possession of controlled substance (2); summons issued; due in court Feb. 13.

Charles Jonathan Fox, born 1985, Wheatland; class E felony operated a vehicle without a valid license - third and subsequent offense; summons issued; due in court Feb. 13.

Kylie Jane Parsons, born 1997, Bolivar; class D felony possession of controlled substance; summons issued; due in court Jan. 30.

Donald Wayne Lewis, born 1974, El Dorado Springs; class E felony driving while revoked/suspended; summons issued; due in court Feb. 13.

• Nicole Karaffa, 24, of Springfield was arrested on a warrant for displaying plates of another, no insurance and operating a vehicle without a valid license.

• Bradley Ross, 47, of Phillipsburg was arrested on a warrant for possession of a controlled substance.

• Savana Menighan, 24, of Springfield was arrested on a warrant for possession of a controlled substance.

• A 23-year old man from Polk was arrested on suspicion of distribution of a controlled substance in a protected location, possession of a controlled substance and possession of paraphernalia.

• Joshua Austin, 25, of Pleasant Hope was arrested on a warrant for possession of marijuana.

• Logan Madson, 23, of Warsaw was arrested on a warrant for displaying/possessing plates of another, operating a vehicle with no insurance, violating parole and forgery.

• Crystal Heuser, 37, of Humansville was arrested on a warrant for failure to affix motor vehicle/trailer plates and operating a vehicle with no insurance.

• Cynthia Newsom, 46, of Fair Grove was arrested on a warrant for operating a vehicle with no insurance, possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana and possession of paraphernalia.

• Bray Nolting, 42, of Fulton was arrested on a warrant for trespassing and burglary.

• Justin Sheffield, 32, of Mt. Vernon was arrested on a warrant for resisting arrest.

• An 18-year old Brighton man was arrested on suspicion of purchasing/attempting to purchase liquor and stealing.

• Deputies responded to the 200 block of South Main Avenue for a missing person.

• Deputies responded for a carless and imprudent driver at Mo. 13/Rt. KK.

• Deputies responded to the 5000 block of South 244th Road for a missing runaway juvenile.

• Deputies responded to the 2000 block of Mo. 32 for sexual misconduct.

• Deputies responded to the 5000 block of South Main Street for suspicious activity.

• Deputies responded to the 800 block of East 560th Road for trespassing.

• Deputies responded to the 5000 block of South 195th Road for theft.

COMMISSION MINUTES

According to the minutes, Polk County Commissioners Shannon Hancock, Rex Austin and Kyle Legan conducted the following business during recent meetings of the commission:

Friday, Dec. 21

    •    Hancock, Legan and Austin present.


    •    Minutes from last session approved.


    •    Public Works Supervisor Danny Crites updated the commission on county roads and bridges. Crites and Austin viewed South 142nd and East 515th roads. Crites and Legan viewed East 360th and East 390th roads.  


    •    Invoices were presented for approval and payment. Legan made a motion to approve and pay invoices as submitted. Austin seconded. Vote 3-0.


    •    A budget amendment meeting was held at 9 a.m.


    •    Charles Polodna, a part-time road and bridge employee, visited with the commission regarding full-time employment.


    •    A Retail Liquor by the Drink Resort Temporary Liquor License was issued to Basil & Bourbon LLC doing business as Basil & Bourbon, Bolivar.


Friday, Dec. 28

    •    Hancock, Legan and Austin present.


    •    Minutes from last session approved.


    •    The commission met with Recycling Manager Robert Meredith and Clay Crawford, Pleasant Hope, regarding operations at the recycling center.


    •    Public Works Supervisor Danny Crites updated the commission on county roads and bridges.


    •    Bids were received for (1) 2019 Dump Truck for the Road and Bridge Department.

    •    Justin Barnhouse met with commission regarding the operations at Polk County Recycling Center.


    •    Payroll was presented for approval and submittal for direct deposit. Legan made a motion to approve and submit payroll for direct deposit. Hancock seconded the motion. Vote 2-0.


    •    Invoices were presented for approval and payment. Legan made a motion to approve and pay invoices as presented. Hancock seconded. Vote 2-0. Austin absent.


    •    Public Works Supervisor Danny Crites updated the commission on county roads and bridges. Crites and Austin viewed East 514th Road. Crites and Legan viewed South 122nd and East 390th roads.


    •    Appointments of Michael Mason and Matthew Van Black as deputy sheriff were received from Sheriff Danny Morrison and approved by 30th Circuit Court Judge Michael O. Hendrickson.


    •    Denny Ballard, Bolivar, visited with the commission – general discussion.


    •    The December 2018 Circuit Court Disbursement Listing Detail Report was received from Circuit Clerk Tiffany Phillips.
