Bolivar’s Open Hearts United Methodist Church was the site of a sweet scene Friday evening, Sept. 7.

Polk County Christian Social Ministries volunteers from churches across the county came together in the name of pastry. Their mission: to bake pies to sell at Country Days 2018.

According to organizer Betty Doyle, this year’s pie-making marked the fourth year the group came together to make the little pies.

“We make them from scratch and use Rita Zaerr’s recipe,” Doyle told the BH-FP.

Proceeds from the sale of the pies will go toward PCCSM’s Share Your Christmas program, she said.

Over the past few years, the pies have been a big hit, Doyle added.

“We have almost sold out the past three years,” she said.
