Almetia Jane Simmons Barnes, 86, of Bolivar passed away Saturday, Aug. 11, 2018, at Mercy Hospital in Springfield. 

Almetia was born Jan. 29, 1932, in Sedalia to Curtis and Rhua Simmons. 

On Aug. 5, 1950, she was united in marriage to Grimes Barnes, and to this union four children were born, Richard Barnes, Randall Barnes (now deceased), Terri Barnes Moore and Melanie Barnes Cravens.

Almetia retired from Spelman Memorial Hospital in Smithville and moved to “The Farm” in Polk. 

After the death of her husband of 55 years, she relocated to Bolivar, where she began volunteering at the Bolivar senior center, as well as for Citizens Memorial Hospital Auxiliary Unit. 

Almetia enjoyed planting flowers and vegetables. She loved her family dearly and will be greatly missed by all.

Almetia is survived by two daughters and one son, as well as nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation for Almetia Barnes will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 16, at Butler Funeral Home in Bolivar. A graveside service will follow at noon at Payne Cemetery in Polk. Memorial contributions can be made in Almetia's honor to the CMH Auxilary.
