Petition Signing – Dec. 2

Published 6:00 am Wednesday, November 26, 2025

The Polk County Democrats are hosting a petition signing event on Tuesday December 2, at the Polk County Library, 1690 W Broadway, Bolivar, Missouri. It will be located in the McDaniel room. There will be representatives from Polk, Dade, Cedar and Hickory counties to help you with the process.

One petition available to sign will be the Respect Missouri Voters, which is a volunteer-led campaign to pass a ballot initiative for a state constitutional amendment that will BAN politicians from: Overturning initiatives that voters have already passed; Attacking citizens’ ability to use the initiative process; and deceiving voters with confusing ballot language. This is important for the future of our rights as citizens of the state of Missouri. The legislators have said publicly that “we didn’t know and understand what we were voting for.” That says they think that over 60% of voters who passed the last amendments are uneducated and not smart enough to know their own will and mind concerning those issues. It’s time for Missourians to step up and make sure this initiative process remains strong and legal for all to use in the future. It is vital to the process of our state government.

Another petition available to sign is the People Not Politicians referendum. Politicians passed an illegal gerrymandering scheme that is nothing more than an unconstitutional power grab. We believe that Missouri voters—not politicians—should have the final say. The People Not Politicians group have filed a citizen’s referendum to gather signatures to put this unjust map before voters on an upcoming ballot.

Missourians deserve representation that focuses on our families and communities, not advancing a specific partisan political agenda. Politicians shouldn’t be slicing and dicing communities to pick their voters — voters should be picking their politicians. Gerrymanders take away voters’ power and cause real harm to Missouri communities.

The third petition is concerning the Missouri Right2 Public Education. This ballot initiative guarantees that kids, teachers and schools get the resources they deserve. We believe that your kids should be a priority and they should be Missouri’s priority too. Our public schools should be well-funded and your children shall have access to a stable and high quality learning environment. This initiative provides the legal framework for parents to mandate that the legislature prioritizes our children’s education as a fundamental right. In the past, Missouri has voted to fund education through sports betting and casinos, despite that the legislature has used this as an opportunity to divert education funds to non-public schools under the guise of education choice. This leaves public school systems underfunded yet again. This initiative guarantees a high quality education and well-funded public education process for our children in Missouri.

If you haven’t had a chance to sign all or any of these petitions, please come by the Polk County Library, 1690 W Broadway, Bolivar, MO on Tuesday December 2nd from 10am-4pm. There will be many volunteers to help you understand and sign correctly.
