Bolivar Liberator football has dropped their last two games against Ozark Mountain Conference opponents. Last week, Bolivar was overpowered by conference and district opponent Carl Junction, losing 7-34 on the road.

This loss all but solidified the district seeding, with Bolivar being projected as the three seed and earning a home game for the first round.

On Friday, Oct. 24, Bolivar had a chance to get one last win under their belts before district competition against class five Parkview.

Sophomore Shaqir McCoy, like he’s done all season, started the game off strong. McCoy took the opening kickoff down to the opponents 25 yard line. Bolivar penalties brought the return back to the 50, but the momentum was already set. A balanced rushing attack set up a 24 yard touchdown for sophomore Kolt Hill, giving the Liberators a quick 6-0 lead.

Parkview responded with a methodical drive of their own, pushing down into the redzone. Junior running back Olliven Generette picked up a four yard rushing touchdown for the Vikings. A blocked extra point attempt kept the game tied at 6-6.

Senior quarterback Chapel Banner found Senior Bradyn Long on a wide receiver screen for a 57 yard touchdown with time winding down in the first quarter. Senior Colton Ingold hit the extra point, giving Bolivar the lead 13-7.

The Vikings marched down to the red zone once again, but this time Bolivar’s defense held them to a turnover on downs.

On the ensuing drive, senior Dorian Gonzales found some open space and took a pass from Banner for 35 yards and a touchdown. Ingold knocked down the extra point attempt and extended the lead to 20-6.

An unnecessary roughness call on Gonzales touchdown set the Liberators up for a surprise onside kick, giving them the ball right back.

After a penalty on first down, Banner read the Parkview blitz, settled his receivers and fired another touchdown pass to sophomore Waylon Cooper.

Parkview tacked on another touchdown late in the second quarter, hoping to close the gap going into halftime.

But McCoy had other plans. The sophomore cut across the field on the kick return and ran up the sideline for a Liberator touchdown.

WIth time running out, this looked to be the end of the half. Bolivar fought for more yards after stopping Parkview, but the Liberators were running out of time to work with.

Then, Banner cut his way through multiple Parkview defenders for a 40 yard scramble touchdown. This gave Bolivar the lead 41-12 going into the second half.

After another stop in the second half, Banner connected with Gonzales for an 18 yard touchdown and Gonzales second touchdown of the night.

Sophomore Dakota Spiegel earned the final touchdown for the Liberators on a 30 yard run up the middle, making the score 55-12.

Parkview was able to add on two touchdowns of their own, but ultimately came up short.

The Liberators finished the game up 55-24, bringing their record to 5-4.

Bolivar will play six seed McDonald County on Friday, Oct. 30 for the first round of district competition. Because the Liberators are the three seed, they will host the matchup.
