On Dec. 6, Halfway High School will host an American Red Cross blood and power red drive. Power red collects the red cells but returns most of the plasma and blood platelets to the donor. To be a power red donor, you must have types A-, B-, or O blood and meet certain criteria. The Liberator soccer season ended last week in a double overtime loss to Logan Rogersville in the District 5 Championship. Despite the heartbreak ending, Bolivar recorded an impressive season with a string of accomplishments to cap off the BHS careers of 11 seniors and usher in a new era under first year head coach Jason Ingold and assistants Zach Waters and Zach Warwick. more

This above-stated question has arisen several times lately. A friend recently asked if the woman is Lady Liberty. My granddaughter and her daughter were driving across the square when there were people on the roof of the courthouse. Miss Maddie inquired; “What are they DOING to our Statue of Liberty?” Her mother replied that the woman up there isn’t the Statue of Liberty. Maddie, always on top of things, asked “Then who IS she?” Her mother wasn’t sure. Maddie assured her mother that “Grandma Jean will know”. And I do. I know a bit about the woman on the courthouse. On Nov. 13, police received a report of a stolen golf cart - a motor vehicle under Missouri law. The cart was allegedly stolen from the City of Bolivar’s golf course. more

Franz Hallatschek Sr., age 93, of Pittsburg, passed away Nov. 10, 2024 at Hermitage Nursing and Rehab, Hermitage. He was born Nov. 29, 1930 in Germany, the son of Josef and Theresia (Thur) Hallatschek. He had served in the U.S. Navy from 1956 thru 1957. He had worked most of his life as foreman of a road construction company. more
