Pleasant Hope softball won the Ash Grove tournament with three resounding victories over Miller, Southwest Washburn and Strafford Saturday, April 6.
As of press time Friday, the Lady Pirates are 12-3 on the first season in their new conference.
Against Strafford in the championship, Pleasant Hope’s Jaydin Lee allowed just four hits and one walk from the mound. The Lady Pirates won 2-1.
She threw nine strikeouts and offered batters no earned runs.
Lee also hit a double. Lindsey Gettle hit three singles and one RBI. Abby Henson had two singles and scored the game’s winning run on a wild pitch. Bailey Stokes had two singles and scored one run. Macie Warner had one single and one RBI. Courtney Jenkins had one single. Kate Stewart had two singles. Keighlyn Johnson hit a single.
The Lady Pirates held Southwest Washburn scoreless, winning 5-0.
Lee allowed just three hits in the game, striking out five. She also hit single and batted in two runners. Henson hit three singles, an RBI and scored two runs. Stokes had a double and scored two runs. Lindsey Gettle reached base on balls twice and scored one run. Jenkins had three walks and batted in one runner. Stewart walked twice and batted in one. Warner hit a single.
Pleasant Hope dominated the first game of the tournament, winning 11-0 over Miller.
Pitcher Jianna Halbrook picked up the win, denying Miller batters any hits in the game. She walked two and struck out seven. She also had a double, a walk and scored two runs. Lydia Dunaway hit a single and scored one run. Stokes hit two singles and scored a run. Henson had a single two walks, an RBI and two runs. Stewart had a single, a double, three RBIs and one run. Katie Chapman had two singles, three RBIs and a run.
The Lady Pirates won 13-3 over Marionville Tuesday, April 9. They defeated Ash Grove 9-5Thursday, April 11.
Pleasant Hope hosts a tournament this weekend. Play opened Friday, April 4 and continues Saturday.
The Cardinals downed Pleasant Hope 7-6 Monday, April 8, then beat Dadeville 11-1 Tuesday. They won over Wheatland 10-0 Thursday and play Laquey at 5 p.m. Monday, April 15, in Laquey.
Pleasant Hope ended a multi-game slide Thursday, April 11, winning a game against Sarcoxie 17-3. After losing to Marion C. Early in pool play at the Wheatland baseball tournament last weekend, the Pirates dropped the third-place game to Skyline Saturday, April 6. The team recorded a 7-6 loss to Halfway Monday, then a 9-3 loss to Pierce City Tuesday. The Pirates played Lockwood Friday, April 12. The score wasn’t available by press time. The Hornets dropped games to Weaubleau, 3-0, and New Covenant Academy, 7-0, Tuesday and Wednesday. They next play Hermitage at 5 p.m. Monday, April 15, in Fair Play.
Humansville recorded its first win of the season Tuesday, besting Climax Springs 11-4. The Tigers faced New Covenant Academy Thursday, losing 22-0, and played Osceola Friday. The score wasn’t available by press time. They next face Walnut Grove at 5 p.m. Tuesday in Walnut Grove.
