The Bolivar Police Department has released the identity of the man found dead in a vehicle in the Bolivar Walmart parking lot Sunday morning, June 30.
The man was Scott Grimm, 54, of Weldon Springs, Bolivar Police Department’s Lt. Roger Barron said Tuesday morning.
According to Barron, a passerby found Grimm in a vehicle in the 2400 block of South Springfield Avenue at around 9:30 a.m. Sunday.
A BPD news release said the initial call to 911 reported an unconscious person in a pickup truck in the parking lot.
The passerby said it appeared the man was not breathing.
Barron said Grimm’s official cause of death is still under investigation.
"An autopsy will be conducted to assist with determining the cause of death,” he added.
Barron said there were no obvious signs of trauma.
"Investigators estimate that the man had been deceased for at least 48 hours," the release said.
While determining the cause of death depends on various factors, Barron said autopsies are usually completed within a week, identifying a preliminary cause of death.
However, he said an official report could take weeks to be released.
Notifying next of kin, interviewing witnesses, filing subpoenas for and examining medical records and getting toxicology results can take a substantial amount of time, Barron said.
"With it being a holiday week, that could cause a delay," he added. "If everything lines up, it could go fast."
Barron said Tuesday morning next of kin had been notified.
