First meeting of year for Polk County Genealogical Society

Posted

The Polk County Genealogical Society will hold its first meeting of the year on Thursday, March 3. The program for the evening is, “So You Think You Are Related to a President” presented by PCGS member Betty Doyle.

Doyle grew up with the family story that they were related to President Abraham Lincoln. When she decided to do the research to join Daughters of the American Republic through the Hanks line, Doyle discovered that they weren’t related. She will share her research and what she found out about the Lincoln/Hanks connection.

The meeting, held at the PCGS Research Facility on the southeast corner of the square, will begin with a short business meeting at 7 p.m. The program will follow.

Now is the time to pay your dues if you haven’t already done so. Dues are $20 individual or $25 for families. Members receive a newsletter every other month and can make copies at a discounted price.

The PCGS Research Facility is open to the public with no usage fee except for copies. We are happy to help with research and will gladly receive queries at info@pcgsmo.com. We do charge a research fee if we do the research along with copy fees. For more information, visit the society’s website at pcgsmo.com.
