Genealogical Society offers new service

Posted

The Polk County Genealogical Society is offering a new service for this year’s upcoming Memorial Day on Monday, May 30.

For those who live out of the area or are unable to visit cemeteries, PCGS members will take orders for flowers to be placed on loved ones’ graves for the holiday.

PCGS member Cay Sergent said the organization will take orders through Saturday, April 23.

This is a new venture for PCGS, Sergent said. The members hope to accomplish two things —  provide a service to those who are unable to take flowers to cemeteries and raise funds for the society.

Sergent said the idea for this venture came after a visitor from another area came in to investigate some history and told members about this service offered where she lived.

PCGS is very excited about being able to offer this in Polk County, Sergent said.

Flowers will be placed on graves between Friday, May 20, and Monday, May 30, Sergent said, and will not be removed after the holiday.

Cemeteries the society will serve include Bolivar City, Crestview, Dunnegan, Flemington, Greenwood, Humansville, Mt. Gilead, Morrisville, Mt. Olive, Payne, Pleasant Ridge, Plum Grove, Reed, Rondo and Salem.

People can request a cemetery not on the list, Sergent said. If the members cannot deliver to that cemetery, they will notify people. If someone requests a cemetery not on the list, the members ask them not to pay for the flowers until they are notified.

Arrangements available for purchase include  a saddle for $50 or a push-in for $20. Colors of the flowers will vary, Sergent said. People can also request the society  to send a picture of the delivery via either text or email.

They will accept PayPal or checks. Checks should be mailed to PCGS, PO Box 632, Bolivar, MO 65613. Orders can be placed via phone at 417-777-2820 or email at info@pcgsmo.com. People  can also contact the society via the Polk County Genealogical Society, Inc. Facebook page.
