Grief Support Program Offered to the Local Community

Posted

The loss of a loved one can have powerful effects on each of us. Berean Baptist Church will begin offering GriefShare groups, caring small groups that provide support, encouragement, and help. Meetings will be held Tuesday evenings from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., starting on Tues., Jan. 10.

This program is a grief support group that features Christ-centered, biblical teaching that focuses on grief topics associated with the death of a loved one. The DVD seminar features nationally respected grief experts, counselors, and real-life stories followed by a small group discussion about what was seen on the DVD.

Many grieving people find they are only beginning the work of healing when friends or family have returned to their daily life routines. These groups assist and comfort individuals during the grieving process of the death of a spouse, child, parent, sibling, other family member, or friend.

Regardless of how recent the bereavement experience is or the cause of the loved one’s death, these support groups give an opportunity to be around people who understand and relate to grief-related feelings.

The program will teach participants how to recognize the symptoms of being stuck in grief, prevent becoming burdened with certain emotions, manage a new routine in life, and gain a renewed hope for the future.

GriefShare participants will be able to borrow grief-related books and materials. Each semester contains a total of 13 sessions, but participation can begin with any of the sessions. The cost is a recommended one-time donation of $10 to help offset the costs of workbooks and materials.

Berean Baptist Church is located at 4450 Scenic Ave. in Bolivar. To register or for questions, call 417-326-7758 or send us an email by visiting the church website at bbcbolivar.com.
