Polk County Library in Bolivar will be hosting its first Fan Favorites Day event from 1-4 p.m. Saturday, April 30.

There will be all kinds of fun indoor and outdoor activities for fans of superheroes and other topics in pop culture, according to a library news release.

Activities include a few craft stations, a temporary tattoo parlor, a photo booth and a bounce house. Patrons will also be able to purchase their favorite frozen treats at Jack’s Ice Cream truck.

Kids are welcome to test their strength and agility at the event’s Superhero Training Course, per the release. Run in a zig-zag pattern in Flash Dash, toss the “flame” at a target in the Human Torch Fireball Throw, duck beneath obstacles in Spiderman Crawl, sneak through Catwoman’s Laser Escape, and so much more.

Children and teens are also welcome to dress up for the family-friendly Superhero Tryouts Costume Contest. Parents can bring their kids to the contest in the library parking lot between 1 and 1:45 p.m, the release stated. A winner in the 0 to 12-year-old age group and in the 13 to 17-year-old age group will receive a prize.

After the costume contest, patrons can participate in a Battle of the Air Bands Contest. Form a “band” with friends or family and pretend to play instruments to the music. Winners will receive a prize.

The Friends of the Library will also be hosting a spring book sale from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Friday, April 29, and Saturday, April 30. The community is encouraged to come to the sale and purchase gently used books, videos and other items. Proceeds benefit the Friends of the Library, the release stated.

In the event of rain, certain activities will not be available and may be replaced with other activities, the release stated. Stay up-to-date on program changes via the Polk County Library’s Facebook page or by calling the Bolivar library at 417-326-4531.
