A Polk County man faces felony charges after allegedly choking and terrorizing a woman earlier this month.
According to online court records, Bryan Robert Pitts, 35, of Brighton is charged in Polk County Circuit Court with class A felony first-degree domestic assault, class B felony first-degree kidnapping, class E felony first-degree harassment, and class E felony animal abuse.
The probable cause statement said officers responded to a Humansville residence on Sunday, March 19, where they found the residence in complete disarray, covered with broken glass and damaged property.
Pitts was identified and placed under investigative detention. While being placed in handcuffs, Pitts turned to the victim and said, “Don’t worry, I’ll call my boys to come deal with you.”
An officer observed the victim and called for an EMS to respond after seeing that she had “blood on her face, along with several lacerations on her mouth, a bump on her forehead, dark red marks on her throat, and visible grading of her chest and ribs,” the probable cause statement said.
The victim said that she had been in the shower when Pitts came to the residence without her knowledge after he had not been present at the residence for several weeks. He began to look through her phone and questioned her about “who the guys are that she has been texting.”
As the statement says, Pitts broke her phone and attempted to smash her dog’s head with a hammer.
The victim says she tried to grab the hammer and leave the residence, but Pitts stopped her by pushing her over a table and choking her with both of his hands, causing her to dizzily collapse. When she “realized what happened,” Pitts began stomping on her chest. The statement says that he, once again, prevented her from leaving the residence by pinning her against the wall with his forearm on her throat.
Upon evaluation, EMS suggested that the victim get x-rays at the emergency room.
Officers were advised that the victim had a full U.S. extradition warrant. She was placed under arrest and transported to the Citizens Memorial Hospital emergency department for a fit for confinement.
“A CMH physician examined [the victim] and gave her a diagnosis of contusion of the left ribs, asphyxiation by strangulation, contusion of the head, and abrasions of multiple sites,” the statement said.
The victim was discharged from the hospital and transported to Polk County Jail.
Pitts was also taken to the jail, where he was held on a $30,000 cash or surety bond. His bond was posted, and he was released on Wednesday, March 29.
He is due in court for a preliminary hearing on Wednesday, April 19.
