Service to those who have Served Us

Schools and other organizations in Polk County are honoring all area veterans at their upcoming Veterans Day events.

On Friday, Nov. 11, special meals and presentations will take place to celebrate and recognize those who have served our country.

Breakfast at Bolivar Elks Lodge
The Bolivar Elks Lodge 2828 will serve a free sausage and pancake breakfast to all veterans. Breakfast will be held at 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. at 1999 W Broadway St., Bolivar.

Veterans Assembly at PCCS
A special assembly will be held by students at Polk County Christian School. The program starts at 9 a.m., and all veterans in the PCCS family and in the community are invited. Students and guests will celebrate and learn about the importance of veterans. The assembly will recognize all branches of the military and will pay tribute to 13 servicemen and women who sacrificed their lives while serving in Afghanistan.

Ceremony at the Bolivar Square
The community is welcome to attend a special ceremony for veterans at the square at 10 a.m. organized, in part, by the Disabled American Veterans (D.A.V.) of Bolivar. The event will feature a flag ceremony and guest speaker to honor all past and present service members.

Lunch and Assembly at FPHS
Fair Play R-II School will host a Veterans Day luncheon from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. in the high school gymnasium lobby. Lunch will be served to all veterans and their guests. A special assembly will take place from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. in the high school gymnasium.

Veterans Assembly at Humansville Schools
Active military and veterans, along with their families, are welcome to attend a Veterans Day reception starting at 1:15 p.m. at Humansville Schools. An assembly for veterans will follow at 1:45 p.m.

Dinner at American Legion
Starting at 6 p.m, a free dinner will be served to veterans and their families at the American Legion Post 138, located at 1424 W Broadway St.in Bolivar.

Breakfast and Presentation at BHS
While most events will take place on Veterans Day, Bolivar High School will host their celebration for veterans on Monday, Nov. 14 to accommodate their musical, Once Upon A Mattress, that will take place the previous weekend.

Breakfast at Bolivar High School will be held at 8:30 a.m. on Nov. 14 for all area veterans and their spouses. The meal will include biscuits and gravy, sausage, bacon, eggs, homemade cinnamon rolls, fresh fruit, coffee, and juice.

The high school’s Veterans Day presentation will take place at 9:30 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. and will be hosted by BHS JROTC, Student Council, Choir, and Band.

Veterans are asked to RSVP to Tracy Branderhorst at the Bolivar High School Office by Thursday, Nov. 10 at 417-326-5228, ext. 5221, but veterans are still welcome to attend the event even if they forget to RSVP.
