Local seniors and their families are gearing up for ceremonies and celebrations this month. 

This week, the county's first graduates of the year will receive their degrees, as one public Polk County school district prepares for a commencement service. Other ceremonies will follow over the next few weeks. 

Area high school commencements are planned for the following dates:

  • Pleasant Hope High School, 7 p.m. Friday, May 6, at the middle school gymnasium. 
  • Fair Play High School, 7 p.m. Friday, May 13, in the high school gymnasium.
  • Humansville High School, 7 p.m. Friday, May 13, in the high school gymnasium.
  • Marion C. Early High School, 7 p.m. Friday, May 13, in the Wayne Keltner Field House at the high school.
  • Halfway High School, 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 20, in the high school gymnasium.
  • Bolivar High School, 3:30 p.m. Sunday, May 22, at Southwest Baptist University’s Jane and Ken Meyer Wellness and Sports Center.

SBU to host commencements

Southwest Baptist University will host three spring commencement ceremonies — one ceremony for bachelor’s degree recipients at 3 p.m. and one for associate degree’s recipients at 7 p.m. on Friday, May 20, and one for graduate degree recipients at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 21.

All ceremonies will be held in the Jane and Ken Meyer Wellness Center on the SBU Bolivar campus. The center is located at 1260 S. Pike Ave.

The ceremonies also will be available for viewing simultaneously on livestream.
