Veterans Welcome Home set for May 7

The annual Veteran’s Welcome Home event will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 7, at the Community Outreach Ministries parking lot on South Springfield Avenue.

The event will feature a charity auction, guest speaker, food, fun and more.

The day will kick off at 9 a.m. with an opening ceremony. 

Honor Flight of the Ozarks director Chris McQuay will provide the keynote address at 10 a.m. His granddaughter Serenity Honors will also give a presentation — “Freedom isn’t Free.” 

Honor Flight is a volunteer charity group dedicated to transporting World War II, Korea and Vietnam War veterans to their memorials in Washington, D.C. at no charge to the veterans.

The High Noon Charity Benefit Auction is set for noon. Shane Wilkinson will serve as the guest auctioneer. 

Auction items include camping gear, an electric pole saw, turkey fryer, hand tools, jewelry, collectible coins and many valuable coupons. Items have been donated by Superior Products, Mid-Missouri Bank, Bill Grant Ford, Autozone Bolivar, Miller’s Fine Jewelry, MFA Bolivar, Meek’s Bolivar, Bolivar MFA Feed, Silo Ridge Golf and Country Club, Joe Cox, AmVets Post 184 and many more.

All proceeds from the auction go toward Honor Flight of the Ozarks. 

Bolivar High School Air Force JROTC military drill exhibitions are planned for 11 a.m. and again at 1:30 p.m.

The closing ceremonies and benediction featuring the Ozarks Memorial Honor Guard and Bolivar Police Department chaplain Lynn Flick will take place at 2 p.m.
