CMH Foundation announces leadership changes

Tim Francka was named the administrative director of long-term care at Citizens Memorial Health Care Foundation. He oversees all CMH Foundation long-term care, residential care and independent living facilities.

CMH opens CMH Health & Wellness Clinic March 4

Citizens Memorial Hospital launched a new medical clinic March 4. The clinic provides wellness visits for patients without a primary care provider and hospital transitional care services for patients without primary care support.

Democrats to meet

Polk County Democrats will meet Monday May 20, at Smith's Restaurant. Dinner is optional at 5:30 p.m. with the regular meeting at 6:30 p.m. We will be discussing several items on the agenda. Please bring a friend and join us for good food and fellowship. No guest speaker at this time. All fellow Democrats are encouraged to attend.

Cavalry’s Family Bible Week

“Let Your Light So Shine” will be the theme for Calvary’s Family Bible Week scheduled for June 3-7, at the church beginning at 6 p.m. each evening. The evening will include Bible lessons, crafts, activities, and music for everyone age six thru adults. Mitchell Cemetery Meeting

The Mitchell Campground/Cemetery will hold its annual business meeting on Sunday, May 26. A service will begin at 2 p.m. and the business meeting will follow. For more information, contact Sherrie Mosher at 417-298-0396.

Decoration day at Schofield Cemetery

The Schofield Cemetery Association will hold Decoration Day services on Sunday May 26, 2024 starting at 10:30 a.m. Bro. Jerry Crain will bring the memorial message followed by the Annual Cemetery Association meeting.

Goff Cemetery Association meeting

The meeting of the Goff Cemetery Association has been changed this year to 2 p.m. Sunday, May 19 at the Cemetery Gazebo where it is usually held. Anyone interested is welcome to the meeting. Donations may be dropped off at 930 S Springfield at any time or given to any trustee. Questions may be directed to Kevin Holt, president at 417-777-1870 or Giana Andrews, treasurer at 417-327-2777.

Lady Liberators Overtake Osage

After a disappointing loss on the road to Logan Rogersville Monday night, April 29, the Lady Liberators recovered with a solid win at home against School of the Osage on Tuesday, April 30.

SBU athletics department announced Issac Scroggins and Kallyn Stumbo as this years’ Rex Brown award winners as announced at the 2nd annual Purple Carpet Premiere.

Soccer Sisters

Coaches often work to build a team that feels like family. For six soccer Lady Liberators, it is family. Three sets of sisters currently suit up for Bolivar and at times this season, they’ve comprised over half of the 11 positions on the field. With girls representing all four grade levels at BHS, junior Ellen Garber, freshman Sophia Garber, senior Ese Jones, junior Julia Jones, senior Ellie Thomas, and sophomore Josie Thomas are soaking up this one season all six get to share.

Bolivar soccer returned to their home pitch Tuesday, April 23 to host conference opponent Glendale in a 2-4 match, dropping only their third loss on the season.

Lady LIberators continue to battle

When the soccer Lady Liberators last met the Lady Bulldogs in Rolla during the 2023 season, they were on the receiving end of a 1-9 loss. Playing host to this conference opponent last Tuesday, April 16, Bolivar was looking for some redemption. In their fifth game in as many days, the Lady Liberators battled fatigue in addition to their on-field challengers. Bolivar fought to stay competitive in the first half keeping Rolla out of the goal but was unable to control possession and convert shots themselves.

Liberators sectional dreams dashed by Father Tolton 73-36

On Tuesday, March 5, the Bolivar Liberators were looking to bring the amazing energy and teamwork that powered them through the district tournament to the state sectional game with Father Tolton Regional Catholic High School of Columbia.

The Lady Knights of Polk County Christian School were recognized as state champions in division 4 for the girls Missouri Christian Schools Athletic Association ( MCSAA) basketball state championship.
The third seed in District 10 Class 4, the Bolivar Liberators challenged their neighbors the Buffalo Bison (4-20).
The Shuler family is excited to announce that Connor Shuler, a Pleasant Hope High School ‘24 graduate, will be continuing his basketball career with Mid-America Nazarene University in Olathe, Kansas.
Thursday, Feb. 22, the Logan-Rogersville Wildcats (23-3) rolled into Bolivar to compete in the last regular season game for both teams.

As summer vacation comes to a close, it’s almost that time of year when parents rush to the stores for supplies and teachers dress up their classrooms to welcome back fresh-faced students.
While donations of supplies have poured in, organizers of Saturday’s Tenth Annual Polk County Back to School Extravaganza say more are always needed.

Registration for all Humansville R-IV students will take place Aug. 9 through Aug.11, from 7:30 a.m. to noon and 1:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Registration packets will be available for parent pick up starting Tuesday, Aug. 8.

Enon cemetery will have decoration service Sunday May 12, at Enon Missionary Baptist Church. Services will start at 11 a.m. with Bro Martin Hosiner preaching.There will be a basket lunch following the morning service. The afternoon service will start at approximately 2 p.m. with a short business meeting followed by a sermon by Bro. Randy McCoy. Everyone is welcome to attend.
Auditions are now open for the annual Polk County’s Got Talent show, an event that recognizes local talent and raises funds for Community Outreach Ministries.
The Sew ‘n’ Sew Quilt Guild will meet Friday, May 17, at United Methodist Church, 105 E. Division Street. Please come to the east entrance into the Fellowship Hall. Social time begins at 9:30 a.m. with the program starting at 10 a.m. and the meeting to follow at 11 a.m. The program this month will be “The Perfect ¼ inch and The Perfect Prairie Points,” by Georgia Highley. All those interested in quilting are welcome.

Bolivar Night at the Springfield Cardinals will return on Thursday, June 27 as the Springfield Cardinals face the Arkansas Travelers at 7:05 p.m. Sponsored by the Bolivar Area Chamber of Commerce, the popular annual event has been a chamber tradition since 2004.
