“We have some opportunities to break some school records,” Coach Kyle Smith said of his team at the start of this season. That’s exactly what his Liberator swimmers did in their final meet of the season at the SWMO Championships in Springfield on February 2nd and 3rd. Among the 11 swimming events in high school competition, teams compete in three relay events. After two days in the pool last weekend, BHS school records in all three relay events are now held by five current Liberator swimmers. more

The swimming Liberators took an unplanned break from the pool to start the second half of their season but appear to be making up for lost time now. Winter break and winter weather allowed BHS swimmers only one competitive meet and limited practices in a four week span during late December and early January. With three big meets now complete in just a week’s time, the Lady Liberators have picked up pace in their schedule and in the pool. more

Now that we’ve had a cold snap – and along with it, snow – we can say that winter is here. Although many of the conditions associated with winter (snow, ice, cold weather, etc.) make us grumble, it should be pointed out that there is a bright side. Because of our recent periods of less-than-balmy weather, it should be a great time to see one of the area’s most eye- catching winter visitors – bald eagles. more
