Golfers, local businesses and community supporters came together Monday, August 10, for the third annual Putts for Paws Golf Tournament, raising over $20,000 to support the animals in the care of Polk County Humane Society (PCHS).

Held at Silo Ridge Golf and Country Club in Bolivar, the four-person scramble welcomed 116 golfers for a day of golf and fundraising in support of the shelter.

Putts for Paws is PCHS’s largest fundraiser of the year, with proceeds helping provide food, shelter, vaccines, medical care and other necessities for the more than 1,300 dogs and cats that come through the shelter each year.

“We are so grateful for the support of our community. This was our largest golf tournament yet, and it truly is an important fundraiser for our shelter,” said Denni McColm, Polk County Humane Society board treasurer. “With the cost of veterinary care, food, staff wages and supplies now totaling more than $30,000 each month, fundraisers like this and community support make a huge impact in helping us provide a safe place for homeless pets.”

The Polk County Humane Society extends its sincere appreciation to the 70-plus businesses and individuals whose sponsorships, registrations and donations made this year’s tournament possible. Shelter Champion Sponsors include, C&R Auto Glass and Branstetter, Cole & Lightfoot Attorneys at Law. Premier Sponsors include Craig Lehman – Shelter Insurance, Curly Q Barbeque, Token & Friends Pet Services and Yeargain Excavating.

Funds raised through Putts for Paws come at a critical time for the shelter as PCHS continues to care for a high number of animals that have been surrendered, abandoned or found as strays throughout the community.

“Thank you to every team that played, business that sponsored and person who donated,” McColm said. “We couldn’t do it without you!”
