Hope’s Safe Haven (HSH) held its first annual coed softball tournament on Saturday, Oct. 17, 2026, bringing together nine teams for a full day of competition, community involvement, and fundraising. When the final out was recorded, The Hot Pockets of Bolivar, captained by Joe Thompson, earned the title of tournament champion. Finishing as runner-up was the Weekend Warriors of Preston, led by Lauren Freeze, while The Drifters of Bolivar, captained by Kyle Rippee, claimed third place.
Individual honors went to Chase Caffey of The Hot Pockets, who won the tournament’s Home Run Derby.
The all-day event was organized and directed by Drew Perry, emeritus board member of Hope’s Safe Haven. Reflecting on the success of the inaugural tournament, Perry said, “The goal is to increase team and sponsor participation next year.” Perry also expressed appreciation to everyone who helped make the event possible. “We would like to thank everyone who helped, especially the teams that came out and played ball all day,” Perry said. “It takes a lot of effort to get your team together, take an entire Saturday, then travel, especially if you live outside of Bolivar.”
Hope’s Safe Haven extends its gratitude to tournament sponsors Carter’s Jewelers of Bolivar and Karen Cleveland with Kare4Massage and Bodywork of Bolivar for their support. A special thank you is also extended to Chase Hampton and the Bolivar Parks and Recreation Department for providing access to the ball fields and helping ensure the tournament’s success. With a successful first event in the books, Hope’s Safe Haven looks forward to building on the momentum and welcoming even more teams, sponsors, and supporters to next year’s tournament.
