Verlon Koch

Mr. Verlon E. Koch, 90, of Morrisville passed away Sunday, June 9, 2019, in his home.  He was born May 6, 1929, in McDowell to Edward Charles Koch and Myrtle Fine King Koch.  

He attended Mt. Zion Bible School, where he started preaching the gospel at the early age of 17.

Verlon was ordained with The Church of God on Sept. 3, 1952. He pastored in Rogers, Arkansas, Paola, Kansas, Benkelman, Nebraska, Eudora and retired in Greenfield.  

He worked with his first wife, Betty, for over 17 years printing the Gospel Emancipator.  

He worked for Springfield Paper Co. for 18 years and worked as a self-employed carpenter for over 33 years.  

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Betty Jean Koch; and three sisters, Nola Ash, Reva Brown and Jewell Moudy.

He is survived by his second wife, Melissa of the home; his son, Max Koch and wife Kay of Morrisville; three grandchildren, Verlonda Slentz and husband Rob of Katy, Texas, Douglas Koch and wife Jodi of Goodson, and Mark Koch of Morrisville; six great-grandchildren, Zack, Katie, Kenzie, Rylee, Palyn and Logan; as well as many other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 12, at Pitts Chapel, Bolivar. A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 13, at the funeral home with Bro. Michael Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Eudora Cemetery, Eudora.
