Deby Gilley, a Bolivar artist, has a new book titled "A Visual Voice In The Wilderness", and will have a book signing from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, at Art Sync Gallery on the Bolivar square. Gilley is a talented linocut and woodcut relief artist, and this is her second book. more

The Sew ‘N’ Sew Quilt Guild wil meet Friday, Aug. 16, at the UNited Methodist Church, 105 E. Division Street, Bolivar. Please enter at the east entrance into the fellowship hall. Social time begins at 9:30 a.m., program starts at 10 a.m. with the meeting to follow at 11 a.m. The program this month will be Vickie Beasley, “The Scrappy Farmer.” She will give ideas on what to do with all those scraps. All those interested in quilting are welcome. more

Wyketha Harrell enters her second season at the helm of the SBU women’s basketball team. She began her head coaching career as a Bearcat and made significant impact right away defeating rival and #12 ranked Drury University. more
When cross country season opens this fall, incoming SBU freshman and recent Marion C. Early graduate, Landon Duchscherer, will join his older brother Gavin as a Bearcat runner for Coach Corey McElhaney. In his years running both cross country and track at MCE High School, Duchscherer earned multiple school records, post season honors, and state medals in distance races. But before making the jump to the collegiate level, Duchscherer added one last achievement that had eluded him until the final race of his high school career last spring. more

We got a taste of this last year in “Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness” when the advertising bragged about bringing in Patrick Stewart’s Professor X from the X-Men and then the movie threw in John Krasinski as Reed “Mr. Fantastic” Richards from the Fantastic Four just because it could. This time, two former Fox characters are front and center for a Disney release, and they’re bringing some very un-Disneylike mannerisms with them. more

After fighting and defeating a battle with neuroblastoma, 5-year-old Brayden Cole Guy was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia right before his birthday in early July. Brayden and his family need your help in finding him a bone marrow donor. Brayden and his family reside in Locust Grove, Georgia, and Brayden is currently receiving treatments at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. more
After serving the community as the Regional Prosecutor for Child Support, John Parks is retiring. Parks has had the position since 2003 and has served the counties of Polk, Dallas, Hickory, Cedar, and Benton. Friday, July 26, colleagues, friends, and family, honored Parks at a reception at the Polk County courthouse. Stepping into the position is Jill Espelien. more
