They have four grandchildren, Tanner Roberts (Kirsten), of Overland Park, Kansas; Shelby Roberts Whiteis (Tyler) of Bolivar; Sally Hinkle of Dallas, Texas; and Dr. Emily Hinkle Northern (Joe) of Fort Wayne, Indiana; and one great-grandchild, Charlie Ann Whiteis.

Polk County Humane Society (PCHS) will hold a golf tournament at Silo Ridge Golf & Country Club on Monday, August 12, in an effort to raise funds in support of the cats and dogs in their care.

On Saturday, June 8, 106 4-H youth ages 8 to 18 put their shooting skills to the test. Polk County 4-H once again hosted their annual 4-H shooting sports competition for current enrolled 4-H members. The youth competed in archery, air pistol, smallbore (.22) pistol and smallbore (.22) rifle. The participants represented 13 counties in southwest Missouri.

Liberator soccer will kick off its 30th varsity season next month. In the first 29 years, Coach Steve Fast has led all but the inaugural season. Fast took the reins as a new coach in 1996 with limited soccer experience and was later joined by assistant Jeff Edge. Together, the two have been on the Liberator sidelines for nearly three decades. And together, they closed out their final season on the pitch this spring.

The Bolivar Saddle club had a beautiful evening, Saturday, July 6, for their annual 4th of July All Gaited Horse Show. Showmanship was at its best as Polk County horse enthusiasts as well as those from the surrounding area, came to show their pride and joy in the arena.

Effective as of Monday, July 1, 2024, the Ozarks Area Community Action Corporation (OACAC) Community Services Block Grant (CSBG) Program can now serve households with an income up to 200% of the Federal Poverty Level (FPL). The previous allowable FPL for CSBG was 125%.
