The Bolivar Rotary Club’s 43rd annual Celebration of Freedom brought friends and family to the SBU campus, Tuesday, July 4 for food, fun, and entertainment. The holiday was also the perfect time for the community to honor local veterans with a special ceremony. Closing out the night, local residents flooded the SBU lawns and found parking spots in town, as the skies were illuminated during the anticipated fireworks show. more
Leslie James, field archivist for the State Archives, will be the speaker at the July 6 meeting of the Polk County Genealogical Society. She will be speaking about the various resources available on the State Archives website. James, along with field archivist Linda Myers, spent many months at PCGS preparing the 1835-1899 Polk County Circuit Court records for microfilming/digitizing. more

Wild Carrot (Daucus carota), also known as Queen Anne’s Lace, is a biennial plant in the parsley family. It is often found growing in pastures, hayfields, along roadsides, and in abandoned areas this time of year. Wild carrot prefers well-drained to dry soils but can grow in most of our soil types here in Missouri. It is usually found in full sun to partially shaded areas. more
