The Downtown Bolivar Association is now accepting applications for vendors who would like to sign up for a booth space at Country Days. This annual event hosts a variety of organizations and vendors who offer food, entertainment, and other goods. This year, Country Days will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 7. more
The Polk County Genealogical Society placed flowers on graves as a service and fundraiser. Many of those ordering the flowers live out of the area or are unable to visit the graves of their loved ones or ancestors. This year there were 47 orders and PCGS volunteers placed flowers in 10 different cemeteries. There were 12 volunteers who helped with this project. This is the third year that PCGS placed flowers on graves and they are happy to be able to provide this service, giving people a way to honor their loved ones. The society plans to continue the project next year. more

Juris Simanis, M.D., CAQSM, RMSK, FAAFP, MPH, MsPH, DiMM, FAWM, DiDMM was recently recognized for achieving the “Triple Crown” in wilderness medicine from the Wilderness Medical Society. He is among the first five physicians worldwide to complete all three programs. more

Polk County participated in a 1 ½ day workshop for the development of integrated strategies to effectively identify and respond to the needs of justice-involved adults with co-occurring mental and substance use disorders. more
Southwest Baptist Track and Field team will send seven to the NCAA Division II Outdoor National Track and Field Championships later this month. Six female and one male Bearcat qualified from marks made earlier in the season. The Championship will take place on May 23 through 25 in Emporia, Kansas. more
