The fireworks show at Celebration of Freedom 2017 earned more than a few "oohs" and "ahhs."

Preparations are underway for the 39th annual Bolivar Rotary Club Celebration of Freedom program and fireworks on the campus of Southwest Baptist University Thursday, July 4.

Area nonprofits are invited to participate as vendors for the event’s community picnic and those who take part will be able to keep all the money they make during the event.

A vendor registration letter is available at Bolivarrotary.club. It will need to be returned by June 24.

The Rotary Club will send out a confirmation letter before the event with last minute instructions and a parking pass. Mark any address and contact person changes for your organization, as well. Vendor setup begins at 3 p.m. July 4 and will need to be completed by 5:30.

Vendors will be able to operate booths from 6 to 9 p.m., when fireworks start.

Choir participants needed

The Rotary’s Celebration of Freedom community choir is organizing for this year’s celebration. Area singers are welcome to attend rehearsals at 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 19 and 26, in the First Baptist Church choir room. Use the north door on Locust Street. The final rehearsal will be at 5:30 p.m. on July 4 in the Casebolt Music Building at SBU.

Dan Adkison will direct the choir, and Melinda Jones will be the accompanist. For more information, call Adkison at 761-2501.

Donations needed

Bolivar Rotary has sponsored the community event since 1980, according to a Rotary news release.

However, the longtime tradition would not be possible without contributions from donors.

Donors are recognized in a two-page flyer handed out at SBU during the event, as well as in a full-page advertisement in the BH-FP. They are also recognized on the Bolivar Rotary website for a full year.

To contribute, complete the mail-in donation form available at Bolivarrotary.club.
