OACAC Head Start is accepting applications for September Head Start enrollment, according to a news release.
Head Start is a school-readiness program to prepare children ages 3 to 5 and their families for success in school, the release said. The program is designed to support the healthy growth and development of children and to support parents in their roles as the child’s teacher.
Head Start provides medical and dental referrals, preventative health and dental assistance, inclusion of children with disabilities and nutritious meals, the release said. It also provides screening and referrals related to development, language, mental health, nutrition and speech.
“Bus transportation is available based on bus routes and schedule for half-day,” the release said. “Transportation assistance is also available for families to attend Head Start activities.”
Children with disabilities are invited to participate in all aspects of the program, according to the release.
“Full day, extended day or half-day sessions are available,” the release said. “Families who meet income guidelines and whose children are 3 years old are eligible to apply.”
Children who are homeless or in foster care are automatically eligible, the release added.
OACAC Head Start is in a 10-county southwest Missouri area, including Polk County. Early Head Start is available in some areas.
