Author to give book talk about local town

Posted

Ann Magaha will be discussing her novel Aldrich, MO Pop. 199 at the Aldrich Methodist Church on Saturday, May 27, 10 a.m.

In the book, Janet Stephens looks back on the twelfth year of her life when her parents divorced and she was shunted off to a small, dying town in the foothills of the Ozarks. It is a wrenching year during which she must decide her future — where she will live, who she will try to be. After Janet leaves Aldrich, the town is razed and flooded to make way for a dam, but despite its virtual disappearance, the rest of her life is guided by memories of the place, the people, the vanished way of life.

Though the book is fiction, the 1950's setting is very real. The story takes place primarily in Aldrich but includes scenes in surrounding areas, including Fair Play and Bolivar. To learn more about the book and its author go to annmagaha.com.

All are welcome to attend the talk and the book signing afterward. Copies of the book will be available for sale. The proceeds from the sale of copies will be donated to the Aldrich Methodist Church.
