Bolivar man drowns in Pomme de Terre

A 62-year-old man from Bolivar died on Friday, July 15, near the Point 12 Main Channel of
Pomme de Terre Lake.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol drowning report stated that Steven R. Cutbirth was seen
struggling in the water. He was unconscious when rescuers recovered him.

According to the report, Cutbirth was pronounced dead at the scene at around 4:00 p.m. by Polk

County coroner Jeff Witt, as assisted by Trooper J.K. Marlin, and was transported to Pitts
Funeral Home.

Cutbirth’s death was Troop D’s 7th drowning of the year, per the report.

Trooper M.R. Young investigated the drowning.
