Bolivar PD needs donations for Shop with a Cop

Posted

With the holiday season finally here, the Bolivar Police Department is seeking the community’s help as it works to make Christmas special for Polk County children.

Each year, Bolivar PD partners with Bolivar’s Wal-Mart, area law enforcement agencies and local businesses and individuals for its Shop with a Cop program. Organizers are again coming to the community to ask for donations to the annual program.

Officers donate their time to shop with children who otherwise might not have a Christmas. Each child receives $100 to spend on Christmas gifts for themselves and others, and they also get the chance to eat pizza and visit with Santa. This year, each participant will also go home with a gift bag of hygiene products.

Bolivar PD will host this year’s Shop with a Cop at Bolivar’s Walmart Tuesday through Thursday, Dec. 6-8.

The Shop with a Cop program allows teachers and counselors from surrounding schools to select children in kindergarten through third grade who could benefit from being a part of the program.

The effort extends beyond Bolivar’s city limits. The program serves kids from the Bolivar, Humansville, Fair Play, Morrisville, Halfway and Pleasant Hope school districts.

The Bolivar Police Department is proud and honored to be part of this special program but needs the help of the community to make it happen. Each donation is vital to the success of Shop with a Cop.

There are multiple ways to give to the program.

Cash or check donations may be mailed to the following address: BPD ATTN: Shop with a Cop, 211 W. Walnut St., Bolivar MO 65613.

Donations may be dropped off in person at the City of Bolivar Public Safety Center, 211 W Walnut Street. Donations may also be given over the phone by calling Bolivar City Hall at 417-326-2489.

For more information, call BPD program coordinator Margaret Baker at 417-326-5298.
