Cemeteries plan decoration days, seek donations


As the Memorial Day holiday approaches, area cemeteries have announced plans for decoration services and are seeking donations.


Salem Cemetery

Salem Cemetery at Cliquot will hold decoration services on Sunday, May 15.  

Salem Missionary Baptist Church will have morning services with pastor Bro. Gayland Lightfoot bringing the message.  

A basket lunch will follow.  

After lunch, there will be singing, including the Viles Family.  

Donations for the upkeep of the cemetery will be accepted that day or may be mailed to Salem Cemetery, c/o Jeannie Brown, Treasurer, 870 E. 385th Rd, Bolivar, MO 65613. 

Star Ridge Cemetery

There are no formal services planned for the decoration of graves at Star Ridge Cemetery on Sunday, May 15. However, individuals interested in the upkeep or donating for maintenance of the cemetery can contact Mick Hood at 417-399-8981 or Janice Pavey at 417-777-2767. Donations may also be mailed to Mick Hood, PO Box 51, Bolivar, MO 65613.

Schofield Cemetery

Schofield Cemetery will hold decoration services on Sunday, May 22.

Morning services will start at 10:30 a.m. with Bro. Jerry Grant bringing the memorial message. The Schofield Cemetery Association will hold its annual business meeting following the message.

A basket lunch on the grounds will follow the morning service.

Schofield Cemetery is located at 2334 Rt. EE, Halfway.

Brighton Cemetery

Brighton Cemetery Decoration Day will be Sunday, May 22. The Brighton Cemetery Annual Meeting will be at 2 p.m. at the old Brighton Methodist Church.  

Decorations left on the ground after Memorial Day must be removed for mowing and lawn maintenance by Friday evening, June 3.

Upkeep of the cemetery is made possible by donations. Donations may be made during Decoration Day weekend on Saturday and Sunday, May 21-22, on Memorial Day weekend on Sunday and Monday, May 29-30, or by mail to Brighton Cemetery, PO Box 664, Brighton MO 65617.

Reed Cemetery

Reed Cemetery will hold decoration services on Sunday, May 22. The annual business meeting is scheduled for 2 p.m. in the pavilion.

Upkeep of the cemetery is made possible by donations. Donations may be made that day or mailed to Reed Cemetery, ℅ Randy Voris, 4247 Hwy P, Halfway, MO 65663.

Dunnegan Cemetery

The Dunnegan Cemetery annual meeting will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 28, in the pavilion area. If you are unable to attend and would like to make a donation it can be sent to: Becky Peters, PO Box 302, Humansville, MO 65674.

Mt. Olive Cemetery

Decoration will be Sunday, May 29, at Mt. Olive Cemetery. The business meeting will be at 1 p.m. at the cemetery. Donations for the upkeep of the cemetery may be  mailed to Karen Stillings, 1740 E. 552nd Road, Brighton, MO 65617. Or call 417-326-4563

Plum Grove Cemetery 

A cemetery board meeting will be held at Plum Grove Cemetery from 1-2 p.m. Sunday, May 29. Cemetery books will be available for purchase. For more information, call 417-654-2449. 

Antioch Cemetery

Antioch Cemetery of Pittsburg is seeking donations to help with the maintenance and upkeep of cemetery grounds. The cemetery relies on community support, and all donations are greatly appreciated.
