Even on hot summer days, families in Polk County have been beating the heat at the Cribbs Family Youth Park with water play and a free meal.
The mission of the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) is to provide free lunches for kids, ages 0-18, “who do not have access to free or reduced meals at school during the summer months,” according to previous coverage. The free lunches are served to children regardless of residency or income.
The lunch program began on Wednesday, July 5 and will continue through Friday, August 11. Free lunches are served from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Cribbs Family Youth Park.
The SFSP is made possible by the USDA and Ozarks Food Harvest in Springfield, along with assistance from Community Outreach Ministries.
Local organizations and individuals who volunteer with cooking and serving responsibilities also largely contribute to the success of the program.
