A man from Brighton died in a two-car crash on M96, seven miles east of Carthage, on Saturday, April 8.
According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol crash report, Joseph N. Raylyanu, 24, was westbound in a 2019 Toyota Yaris on M96 at around 8:50 p.m. when he attempted to pass a vehicle on a two-lane road and traveled into the path of an eastbound 2018 Chevrolet 2500, driven by Broc E. Ratliff, 20, of Avilla.
Neither of the drivers were wearing a seatbelt, per the report.
Raylyanu was airlifted to Mercy Hospital in Springfield, where he was pronounced dead at 12:23 a.m. on Monday, April 10 by Dr. Brian Draper, the report said.
No injuries were listed for Ratliff.
The report stated Ratliff’s vehicle had extensive damage, and Raylyanu’s vehicle was totaled. Both vehicles were towed by Schrader’s Towing.
Raylyanu’s death was Troop D’s 22nd fatality of 2023, the report stated. Next of kin has been notified.
