Library renovation to start in May

Posted

Polk County Library is set to start the renovation of their Bolivar location on Monday, May 8. A recent press release stated that the renovation “is aimed at improving the overall functionality of the library, while also making it more visually appealing.”

To prepare for the renovation, the Bolivar library will be closed from Monday, April 24 through Saturday, April 29. The Fair Play, Humansville, and Morrisville library branches will remain open.

The library will also be hosting a furniture sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on April 29, with proceeds benefiting the building fund, the release said.

Partnering with SAPP Architects and Hambey Construction for the building renovation, Polk County Library plans on making several changes to the Bolivar location. According to the release, the renovation will include new carpet and paint, along with “the expansion of collaborative spaces, a new outdoor patio, more bathroom facilities, new lighting, and the installation of new furniture.”

Additionally, the renovation will expand the children’s section. The updated children’s zone will have new seating, interactive and collaborative learning areas, and “a sound baffling tree to reduce noise pollution,” the release said.

Polk County Library hopes that, with these changes, more children and families will visit the library and use library resources.

“We've worked hard to make the library a place where people want to come and spend time," said the Library Director Colleen Knight. "We hope that the renovation will encourage more people to take advantage of the resources and services that we offer."

The project is expected to be completed by the end of the year, but the library will remain open as much as possible throughout the renovation. Library patrons can expect some disruption in service and short closures, as work is being completed on the building.

Library staff will be available to assist patrons and answer questions. For more information about the library renovation, contact Polk County Library at 417-326-4531 or visit their website at www.polkcolibrary.org.
