Southwest Baptist University is teaming up with the Community Blood Center of the Ozarks to host a blood drive from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 8.
Sponsored by the SBU football team, the blood drive will take place in the McClelland Dining Hall, located at 1601 S Springfield Ave on the Bolivar SBU campus. As part of a friendly competition, the football team encourages the community to support them in order to win a trophy against the SBU women’s basketball team. A blood drive will be scheduled in April to support the women’s basketball team.
Successful blood donors will be given a long-sleeved quarter zip pullover, while supplies last.
Blood donors should prepare the day before and the morning of their donation by drinking plenty of water or juice and eating a well-balanced meal.
Local donations help preserve and save the lives of area patients. A recent press release said that Community Blood Center of the Ozarks donors provide all the blood for patients at Citizens Memorial Hospital, as well as over 40 other healthcare facilities across the Ozarks. Two hundred donations per day are needed to meet the transfusion needs of local patients, the release said.
Appointments are encouraged in order to reduce wait times. To schedule an appointment, visit www.cbco.org/story/ or call 417-227-5006.
