School days on the way

As summer vacation comes to a close, it’s almost that time of year when parents rush to the stores for supplies and teachers dress up their classrooms to welcome back fresh-faced students.

Polk County school districts are announcing their school registration, opening dates, and other activities:

Bolivar R-1 Schools

For individuals interested in becoming a substitute for the Bolivar school district, a training day will take place at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 3. Substitutes must attend this required training event at 524 W Madison St.

Attendees will need to fill out an application. Applicants will need a substitute teaching certificate through the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.

Online registration for Bolivar R-1 opens on Monday, Aug 7.

Kids at the Early Childhood Learning Center (ECLC) can make new friends while soaking up the last bit of summer at ECLC’s Popsicles on the Playground event from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 8 and Thursday, Aug. 10.

Before jumping into the school year, ECLC students also have the opportunity to get acquainted with their teachers and classmates at the Little Libs Meet and Greet from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 11.

Wednesday, Aug. 16 will be another busy day at ECLC. The P.A.T. Playground Fun will be from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m., along with a school supply drop-off at 3:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Middle schoolers and high schoolers in Bolivar can pick up their schedules and get ready for their school year on Thursday, Aug. 10. Students can come-and-go from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the middle school and from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the high school.

The primary and intermediate schools will be open from 3:30 to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 16, inviting students to meet their teachers and allowing them to drop off their school supplies. The middle school and high school will also be open on Aug. 16 for an Open House with teacher meet-and-greets.

Bolivar R-1 will welcome students back to school for the first day of the school year on Tuesday, Aug. 22.

Fair Play R-II Schools

New students in seventh through 12th grade at Fair Play Schools can register for classes from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 10.

Registration will be at 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. for all high school and eighth grade students. Tenth through twelfth graders can register on Wednesday, Aug. 9, and eighth and ninth graders can register on Thursday, Aug. 10.

Seventh graders can register during the district’s Back to School Bash from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 17.

Keeping the four-day school week, Fair Play R-II will bring students back for first-day classes on Tuesday, Aug. 22.

Halfway R-III Schools

Students at Halfway R-III can come to an Open House at the school from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 18.

Halfway students will make their way back to the halls of school for their first day of school on Monday, Aug. 21.

Humansville R-IV Schools

Registration at Humansville Schools will be held from 7:30 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday through Friday, Aug. 9-11. Registration packets will be available for parent pick-up starting Tuesday, Aug. 8.

The district’s Open House will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 17.

School will be back in session on Wednesday, Aug. 23.

Marion C. Early R-V Schools

New student registration will be Wednesday, Aug. 2 to 3 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. To register, students are required to bring proof of residency, current immunizations, and proof of age (e.g. birth certificate or other document).

Kindergartners and sixth graders will be informed about the upcoming school year at an orientation at 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 16. On the same date, sixth through eighth grade students can receive their schedules from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m.

MCE high schoolers can get their class schedules between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 17.

A 30-minute Elementary Parent Forum will be held starting at 6 p.m. on Aug. 17 in the AP Room. Parents and guardians of elementary students are invited to the open forum before Meet the Teacher Night in order to ask questions and to learn about changes in the 2023-2024 school year.

MCE students will attend their first day of school on Tuesday, Aug. 22.

Pleasant Hope R-VI Schools

All community leaders — including school administrators, business owners, pastors, emergency personnel, and others —- are invited to attend the School-Community Leaders Meetings on the second Tuesday of each month in the school district office board room. This month’s meeting will be at noon on Tuesday, Aug. 8. Attendees need to RSVP and indicate any dietary restrictions for lunch.

Pleasant Hope R-VI will be training bus drivers from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 14. The district will also be hosting a substitute training day on Tuesday, Aug. 15.

New students can enroll on Monday through Tuesday, August 7-8.

Featuring fun games, prizes, and food, the Back to School for the elementary school will be at 5-6 p.m., the middle school at 5:30-6:30 p.m., and the high school at 6-7 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 17.

Students in the Pleasant Hope school district return to school on Monday, Aug. 21.
