Hi, I'm Screech Powers! I'm a 2 year old Cavalier mix with a lovely personality. I seem to do good with other critters and I've got the hang of a doggy door. I was found as a stray so the shelter isn't sure on my background but I'm a happy-go-lucky guy ready to find my forever home. Could that be with you?

Adopt don’t shop. We have all heard that logo and I admit, I am an advocate for searching the pounds and sanctuaries for a dog in need of love. In fact, I can only think of one pup my family bought in an actual pet store. She is still alive today at a whopping 17 years old; she has diabetes and is blind, but we wouldn’t trade her for anything.

On Sept 20, 2024, Justin Mangum, 26, of Humansville, was pulled over for various traffic violations. Mangum, a registered sex offender, had a 14-year-old male passenger in the front seat of the vehicle. When asked about the child’s age, Mangum initially stated the boy was 18. Mangum then consented to have his phone searched and police discovered a sexually explicit conversation between the suspect and a 15-year-old boy (Victim A) on Facebook Messenger. Included in the conversation were inappropriate photographs.

Mardi Gras, or Fat Tuesday for the non-French speakers, is known for its excess and gaudy beads, which can be earned by, um, well, letting it all hang out. Of course, New Orleans is the hubbub for the day of indulgence, but does anyone really know why it’s celebrated at all?

MERGE is back! MERGE is Polk County KLIFE and FBC's spring retreat for high school and middle school students on March 28-30th. It's a weekend to take a step away from their normal daily distractions and stress and have a fun-filled, intentional weekend pursuing Jesus. We want to create space for our students to ask questions, dive deeper, and know that they aren’t alone in their walk with the Lord. This year we are focusing on the parable of the Prodigal Son!

The popular word game has been a staple in the newspapers for as long as anyone can remember. We can thank a newspaper for introducing us to this world-famous puzzle. The year was 1913 and British journalist Arthur Wynne worked for the New York World. He called it “FUN’s Word-Cross Puzzle” since it was in the FUN section of the paper. It was a typo just weeks after the initial publication that termed it a “Cross-Word”. There were differences between his and the ones we see now; it was a diamond shape without the black squares to indicate there weren’t letters like.
