Meet Kendall and Kylie — Two Sweethearts on the Road to Recovery. Kendall and Kylie arrived at Polk County Humane Society after wandering together, clearly bonded and looking for safety. Unfortunately, both girls tested positive for heartworms—a serious but treatable condition.

SBU football returned to action for the second week of the season as they took on the Roosevelt Lakers Saturday afternoon. The Bearcats held the lead throughout the majority of the game and came away with a 40-34 victory. This win gave head coach Paul Hansen his first win as a Bearcat and moves the team to 1-1 on the season.

The City of Bolivar has called for a Special Election on Nov. 4, 2025. Absentee voting will start on Sept. 23, 2025. The Polk County Clerk’s office will be open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday-Friday and open throughout the lunch hour for absentee voting. The deadline for casting an absentee ballot in person at the County Clerk’s office is 5 p.m. Monday, Nov. 3, 2025. The County Clerk’s office will also be open on Saturday, Nov. 1, 2025, from 8 a.m. to noon.
