Tim Ritter makes a return visit to Polk County Genealogical Society on Thursday, Aug.7, to present a program about the New Madrid Fault. This talk examines what is known to have happened, as well as a few legends, to piece together the story of the horrifying events of that time on a fault line that remains active to this day. Ritter has spoken several times at the Society’s meetings and is always welcomed, and enjoyed, by a large group. The meeting will be held at the PCGS Research Facility on the southeast corner of the square beginning at 7 p.m. with a short business meeting. The meeting is open to the public. more

The CMH Senior Fitness Center hosted an Open House Thursday, July 24, for community members to learn more about the free service offered by Citizens Memorial Hospital. Anyone age 55 or older living in CMH's eight-county service area (Polk, Cedar, Dallas, Dade, Hickory, St. Clair, northern Greene and Benton counties) can apply for a free fitness membership. The center has a variety of exercise equipment, an exercise pool and group fitness classes. The center is open from 8:30-11:30 a.m. and 12:30-4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday. Stop by anytime for a tour and to learn more about membership. more
