The March Polk County Community Connections breakfast meeting is at 7:30 a.m. Thursday, March. 2, in the community room at Citizens Memorial Hospital, 1500 N. Oakland, Bolivar. A free breakfast is provided. Bolivar Mayor Chris Warwick and Polk County Clerk Rachel Lightfoot will provide education about Proposition U the sales tax issues on the April 4 ballot. more

The Polk County Clerk’s office will be open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and open through the lunch hour for absentee voting. more
The Polk County Genealogical Society will meet Thursday, March 2. The program for the evening will be “Who Am I? The Man with Two Lives” presented by PCGS member Leta Gass. This is the story of David Dickson/E.R. Graham that Gass shared during the Living History Tour last October. This is the program originally scheduled for the January meeting but needed to be postponed due to illness. more

The organization formerly known as Polk County House of Hope will now be called Hope’s Safe Haven, a transition that provides a more encompassing and accurate depiction of the organization’s influence in the local community and beyond. more

The State Historical Society of Missouri board of trustees has elected recently retired U.S. Senator Roy Blunt of Springfield as president of the State Historical Society for a three-year term. The former senior U.S. Senator from Missouri has served as a trustee of the Society since 2005. Blunt’s term as president follows that of Virginia Laas, a professor emerita of history at Missouri Southern State University in Joplin. Laas will continue to serve as a trustee of the Society. more
The OACAC Foster Grandparent Program is looking for seniors who are 55 years old or over and are interested in volunteering at schools, child care centers, daycares and/or youth centers in the community. more
