Polk County Genealogical Society delivered flowers to seven cemeteries and decorated 46 graves, helping those who couldn’t be here to make sure their loved ones are honored. Most of the orders for flowers were from families that live outside of Polk County. This is the fifth year PCGS has offered this service.
Decoration days scheduled at local cemeteries
Antioch Cemetery of Pittsburg is seeking donations to help with the maintenance and upkeep of cemetery grounds. The cemetery relies on community support, and all donations are greatly appreciated. Donations may be sent to Antioch Cemetery Association, 27749 State Highway 64, Polk, MO 65727.
Barren Creek Cemetery meeting, Fair Play, will hold a meeting at 1:30 p.m., Sunday, May 24, at the cemetery grounds. Donations will be accepted at the meeting and can also be mailed to Paula Henderson, secretary/treasurer, at 4244 S. 34th Rd., Fair Play, MO.
The yearly financial statement is available upon request.
Brighton Cemetery Decoration Day will be Sunday, May 24. The annual meeting will be held at 2 p.m. in the old Brighton Methodist Church. Donations are greatly appreciated and may be mailed to: Brighton Cemetery, PO Box 664. Brighton, MO 65617. Cemetery board members will be available at the cemetery on Saturday, May 23, Sunday, May 24 and Monday, May 25 to help locate graves and accept donations. The Dunnegan Cemetery board will hold their annual meeting on Saturday, May 23 at 10 a.m. at the cemetery pavilion. All are welcome to attend.

Goff Cemetery will not hold their annual meeting at the Cemetery gazebo this year and plan to resume meeting next year. Anyone wishing to make a contribution may leave it at the cemetery or bring it to 930 S Springfield Avenue, Bolivar, as in years past. Hickory Grove Cemetery will have a dinner on the grounds at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 24. The business meeting will follow the lunch.
The Mitchell Cemetery/campground will hold its annual meeting on the fourth Sunday in May, May 24 at 2 p.m. The business portion of the meeting will begin following a short message. The public is invited to attend.
Mt. Olive Cemetery decoration day will be Sunday, May 24, The annual business meeting will be held at 1 p.m. at the cemetery. Donations for the maintenance of the cemetery are greatly appreciated. They may be mailed to Karen Stillings, 1740 E. 552nd Road, Brighton, MO 65617
Reed Cemetery at Halfway will hold Decoration Day services on Sunday,May 24. The annual business meeting is scheduled for 2 p.m. in the pavilion. All donations are greatly appreciated and are used to maintain the cemetery. Donations may be made that day or may be mailed to Reed Cemetery, %Randy Voris, 4247 Hwy P, Halfway, MO 65663.
Salem Cemetery and Salem Missionary Baptist Church at Cliquot will hold Decoration Services on Sunday, May 17. The church’s pastor, Brother Gayland Lightfoot will bring the message during the morning service. Brother Kip Baker will preach during the afternoon service following lunch. Donations for the upkeep of the cemetery will be accepted that day or can be mailed to Salem Cemetery, in care of Jeannie Brown, 870 E 385th Rd , Bolivar, MO 65613.
Schofield Cemetery decoration services will be on Sunday, May 24, starting at 10:30 a.m.
Bro. Jerry Grant will bring the memorial message followed by the annual cemetery business meeting. A basket lunch on the grounds will follow the morning service. The address is 2334 Hwy EE, Halfway, Mo.
Star Ridge Cemetery no formal services are planned for decoration of graves at Star Ridge Cemetery. Donations are needed in order to continue with the upkeep of the cemetery.
