Pregnant woman from Humansville killed in wreck

A 19-year-old pregnant woman died in a single-vehicle crash at around 8 p.m. on Saturday, Sept.
3 in Springfield near Parkview High School.

An online statement from the Springfield Police Department said that Joshua Stone, 28, of
Springfield, had been speeding southbound on Grant and Meadowmere in a 2007 Ford Ranger
when he lost control and drove off the road.

"The vehicle struck a utility pole, chain link fence, and tree before rolling over, ejecting Smith
and Fields," the online statement said.

According to the online release, Kaylee Fields, of Humansville, and Elijah Smith, 19, of
Springfield, who were riding in the bed of the truck, were ejected.

The release also stated that another passenger, Kyle Carlisle, 19, of Springfield, was riding in the

cab of the truck during the wreck.

“All four individuals in the truck were transported by EMS to the hospital,” said the Springfield
Police Department in an online statement.

Fields, who died from her injuries, was four months pregnant, and according to the online
statement, Smith suffered serious injuries but remained in stable condition.

Stone and Carlisle suffered minor injuries, per the release.

Police will continue to investigate the crash.

This wreck was the 17th fatal motor vehicle crash in Springfield this year.
