After hunting for 63 years, Byron Stevens took home his biggest one ever on Friday, Nov. 24 when he took down a 13-point buck. Stevens was hunting in northern Polk County and used a 308 rifle. more

One of the favorite meeting topics for Polk County Genealogical Society is share time, or show and tell, as some people call it. This is the topic of the Dec. 7 meeting. Not only do we bring an item or story to share, we also bring goodies to share. The meeting will start at 7 p.m. at the PCGS Research Facility on the southeast corner of the square. "Let it snow" was the theme, but the moisture that arrived just in time for the annual Christmas parade wasn't frozen, making for a wet parade on Saturday, Dec. 2. But that didn't dampen the Christmas spirit, the streets were lined with kids of all ages as hundreds of people and floats made their way through the streets of Bolivar. It may have been cold and wet but spirits were warm and inviting to all the sights of Christmas coming to Bolivar. more
