The girls softball program at Marion C. Early High School is not foreign to ending up at the Final Four Championship games. Their trophy case at the high school is filled with trophies earned by the Lady Panthers over the years.

When Coy Cooper Jr. a disabled U.S. Navy veteran passed away his son, Jeff Cooper, daughters Kathy Afton and Lesa Crain, along with daughter-in-law Della Cooper, found themselves and their families about to become the owners of a low mileage Chrysler specialty van with a handicapped lift. After discussions with the extended family the decision was made to “pass the van forward” to another disabled veteran.

Just in time for his 100th birthday on Nov. 10, Bolivar resident Gineth Hudson will celebrate this Veterans Day weekend by reflecting on his years of service in the 21st Infantry, 24th Division of the U.S. Army as a World War II veteran and a recipient of a Purple Heart while stationed in the Philippines.

Public works crews have been working on a project to update the exterior of City Hall for the past few weeks. In order to prevent water damage to the building’s foundation and basement, they have excavated the dirt around the building and put in new drains and concrete. This will help water flow away from the building. Also, they have added a patio area in the front of the building.
