In accordance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Pleasant Hope R-VI will conduct a meeting to consult with parents about the process to identify children who are parentally placed that might have a disability will be held on Oct. 20, at 8 a.m. During this meeting participants will be asked to provide input about how funds should be allocated for individuals who live in our district and have a disability, but do not attend the school. This year’s meeting will be held in the District Office Board Room located at 100 W. Cowden, Pleasant Hope. When my dad, Robert G. Pufahl, was growing up in Bolivar during the 19teens and 1920s, something the young folk enjoyed doing in the cold wintertime was to go to the pond at the Park and ice skate. A bonfire would be built; I suppose there was some sort of food or drink, but I don’t remember Daddy talking about that. I do remember that he said he wasn’t very good on ice skates, but the gatherings were always well-loved memories. more
The Sew ‘N’ Sew Quilt Guild will meet Friday, Oct. 20, at 9:30 a.m. at the Butterfield Nursing Home to give a trunk show of two quilts from each member. There will be a drawing for one lucky resident for a quilt donated by the guild. We will return to the Methodist Church to continue showing our quilts and telling why they are our favorites. Across the U.S., interest in cooking and testing out new recipes in the kitchen have risen dramatically in recent years. The fire service says it’s time to see a similar increase in interest in preventing kitchen fires, and that’s why the theme for Fire Prevention Week this year is “Cooking safety starts with you. Pay attention to fire prevention.” more
