Rita Lemmon, Assessor of Polk County, announces that the board of equalization will begin meeting at 10 a.m. Monday, July 15, at the office of the Polk County Commission to hear those who disagree with the values of real estate established by the assessor for tax year 2024. The board tentatively plans to conclude the hearings by 12 p.m. on Friday, July 19.

Due to the Elections on April 2, the Aldermen meeting was moved from its usual Tuesday to Thursday evening. The session began with the approval of the elections followed by the swearing-in ceremony for the four Aldermen elected at the beginning of April.

The citizens throughout Polk County’s communities made their way to the polls on Tuesday, April 2 to make their voices heard on a variety of issues, as well as municipal, and school board candidates. Safety was a topic on the ballot for school funding and propositions in Bolivar. Some candidates easily won their positions by large majorities or by having no opposition, while other candidates eked out wins by a single vote.
