This Nov. 11, the Polk County Genealogical Society (PCGS), will be honoring veterans with a display of carnations on the front steps of their building. Individuals will have the opportunity to purchase a carnation to honor a veteran. A card will be attached to the carnation with the veteran’s name and service information. Then PCGS volunteers will place the carnations on the steps of the PCGS Research Facility early on Nov. 11. Any veteran, whether living or deceased may be honored. The veteran does not need to be from Polk County. more
The regular monthly meeting of the Polk County Genealogical Society will be held Thursday, Oct. 5, at the PCGS Library on the square. The yearly group picture is scheduled to be taken at 6:45 on the front steps of the library. All members are asked to be there and in place by that time. The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. more

The Polk County Clerk’s office will be open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday-Friday and open through the lunch hour for absentee voting. The deadline for casting an absentee ballot in person at the County Clerk’s office is 5 p.m. the day before the election, Tuesday, Nov. 7. The County Clerk’s office will also be open on Saturday, Nov. 4, from 8 a.m. to noon. more
